Academics

EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMICS AND A LIFELONG COMMITMENT TO LEARNING ARE OUR PURPOSE.

The Palmas Academy aims to develop our students' intellectual ability and provide dynamic learning experiences that help them find their purpose and reach their potential.

Our teachers understand the magnitude of their roles and how they can influence every student who enters their classrooms. TPA's courses and offerings are designed to develop culturally competent, independent-thinking, and highly creative individuals.

Early Childhood Education
(Grades PK - 2nd)

Even our youngest students start with a world-class education at The Palmas Academy.

The Palmas Academy students begin in preschool with a Montessori-based education, following the best practices for young learners successfully implemented in thousands of schools worldwide.  Some of the hallmarks of the Montessori philosophy are multiage grouping to facilitate mentorship among the students and encourage leadership development, the use of specially designed materials that provide a hands-on approach to learning, and a student-centered approach where they are given agency to self-select work, leading to intrinsic motivation and sustained attention.

As our students move from preschool to the elementary grades, our teachers continue the student-centered approach that fosters exploration, investigation, and a multidisciplinary approach to learning all subjects.  Building on our PK to 2nd-grade program, The Palmas Academy lower grades curriculum focuses on developing all student growth aspects: intellectual, cognitive, emotional, social, and physical.

Course Descriptions

Upper Elementary (Grades 3rd - 5th)

The Palmas Academy delivers an engaging elementary school curriculum that introduces the core academic subjects, character building, and the arts.

The Palmas Academy lower grades curriculum focuses on developing all aspects of students’ growth: intellectual, cognitive, emotional, social, and physical areas of all students. Teachers aim to cultivate in students a passion for learning, develop critical thinking skills, and ignite their curiosity. The curriculum fosters self-confidence and a sense of community and helps teachers nourish students’ unique gifts.

Our goal is for our students to develop the skills and competencies to become independent, inquisitive learners as they transition to middle and high school.

Course Descriptions

Middle School (Grades 6th, 7th & 8th)

In the middle grades, students continue to learn through a combination of the core academic subjects with key supplemental subjects, physical education and the arts.  They continue to develop more sophisticated  academic skills such as research, writing, innovation, and collaboration. There is also an added focus on the development of executive functions.  Students prepare to be resilient, tenacious, and ready to meet the challenges in high school.

Course Descriptions

High School (Grades 9th-12th)

The Palmas Academy recognizes that our students grow, their areas of interest and talents become more defined and diversified. For many, high school is an opportunity to discover and find their strengths and work on their areas of opportunity. TPA seeks to provide a world-class college preparatory curriculum that focuses on academics but also offers a myriad of opportunities for students to excel where they are most passionate and find their place in the school community and, eventually, the world. Our offerings include advanced-level courses (including AP courses), specialized electives, clubs, extracurricular activities, and service opportunities.
